A FLEXIBLE PLAN, AT YOUR PACE
Make the days your own.
Give Tokyo three different moods instead of racing between landmarks. The following outline groups places by area; swap the days to suit your hotel, weather and museum plans. Leave time to eat and explore between the larger stops.
Ideas for your days
Use these as starting points, then adjust around current opening days, weather and your interests.
A day around Asakusa
Begin with the streets leading to Sensoji, then make room for the Sumida riverside. Choose a few shops along the way instead of treating the neighborhood as a single photo stop. Keep the afternoon flexible so a crowded morning does not force you to rush.
Parks and collections in Ueno
Choose one museum in Ueno Park as the anchor for your day. Pair it with an unhurried park walk and time around Ameyoko. Check your chosen museum’s own calendar before setting the order; a manageable day leaves room to stay longer with an exhibition you enjoy.
An evening in Shinjuku
Use the later part of a day for Shinjuku’s shops and restaurants. Agree on a precise meeting point if your group separates around the station. Before heading out for dinner, save the route back to your hotel and check the last useful connection for your plans.
Plan the journeys between
Map your first and last journeys as well as your sightseeing. Tokyo has multiple rail operators and large interchanges. With luggage, check the station exit, lift access and the final walk rather than relying only on distance to a station pin.
Before you choose your stay
For a small room, compare floor area, bed arrangement and luggage space rather than the room name. If several people are traveling, check the occupancy of every selected room. Ask the property about storage if you expect to arrive before check-in.
Choose your neighborhood before your room. Being near a useful rail station can matter more than being near a single landmark.
